Ladies & Girls End of Season Cricket Celebration

Ladies & Girls End of Season Cricket Celebration

On Sunday 12th September we celebrated our Girls & Ladies Cricket Teams’ season. We were fortunate the rain held off despite the threatening clouds, enabling an undisturbed afternoon of cricket and fun. Charlie Gloyn, the Ladies Cricket Team Captain and coach for the girls U9s team, organised an afternoon of pairs cricket and activities, including a cricket ball throwing competition. The cricket club ran a BBQ and bar and Barny Gloyn accompanied the key events with some musical embellishment. Players wearing some spectacular fancy dress outfits contributed to the enjoyment and celebratory atmosphere.

We are also fortunate that Clarissa Fortescue is a member of the Ladies Cricket Team. She is a professional photographer and took many excellent photographs of the afternoon’s activities.

This celebration concluded a successful season for our ladies and girls. The Club runs one ladies’ team and girls under 13s, 11s and 9s teams. Mark Low has been coaching the ladies for the last few years. This season’s successes culminated in winning the ECB End of Season W10 Festival at IBM, Hursley. 18 teams and 180 ladies attended. Girls’ teams are coached by a number of local parents, including Charlie Gloyn, Nick Heath, Sachin Bhintade and Charlie Evans. Very efficient management for girls’ training and matches is provided by Frances Skipwith, Claire Williams and Rhiannon Kerr.

On the celebration afternoon, the players were divided into four groups, all wearing fancy dress – Ballerinas, Unicorns, Hotdogs and Bananas! Matches were 10 overs of pairs cricket. Players trying to field and score runs whilst wearing fancy dress were a very amusing spectacle! Some of the pairings were mothers and daughters, who very much enjoyed the experience of playing together, despite some differing views on tactics at times! The grand final took place between the Hotdogs and Unicorns. Eventually the Hotdogs were crowned the winners and presented with the Easton Ladies Challenge Cup by Adrian Lee, Club Chairman. Adrian thanked all the helpers and participants – and in particular Charlie for her superb organization and innovative ideas for the afternoon. The afternoon rounded off with a delicious BBQ thanks to Stuart Upcraft, chef on the day.

Cricket continues during the winter: Two adult teams are entered into the Winchester and District Indoor Cricket League with matches to be played in the new Winchester Sports and Leisure Park. Adults’ indoor cricket training will start in February, 2022 prior to outdoor training in May. Juniors (Colts) teams’ indoor and outdoor training will be starting in January 2022 at Prince’s Mead School.
