News Update – April 2024
Easton and Martyr Worthy Cricket Club April 2024
The trend for cricketers to play in brightly coloured kits has been embraced by EMWCC Juniors! The 2024 season will see our Juniors playing in yellow and blue shirts and dark blue trousers; the new kit matches the colours in our Club emblem. Parents undertaking the washing of white cricket trousers over the summer season will appreciate this change!
All Juniors will receive the new shirts as part of the subscription for their membership for this year; the Club is very grateful for the support of Jude’s Ice Cream in undertaking this expensive change. Juniors’ winter training has finished and outdoor training will commence in mid April, prior to the start of the summer Leagues. Juniors’ training will take place on Mondays (U13 & U15 ages) and Fridays (Hoppers, U9 & U11 ages) with matches played on Sunday mornings. Laura Skilton and Ben Gillings and their team are busy preparing for the season ahead.
Adults’ Indoor Winter Leagues have ended; our Men’s team played at Flemming Park Leisure Centre and Ladies at Dummer Cricket Centre. Outdoor training takes place on Thursday evenings for the Men’s teams and Ladies train or play matches on Tuesday evenings. If anyone would like to participate in pre-season training please contact Seb Stannard or Charlie Gloyn. Their details are below and on the Club’s website.
EMWCC is very grateful to all our sponsors for supporting us throughout the year. Without their financial contributions we would not be able to afford the maintenance, investment and coaching that is required to play all the games we do for both the Juniors and Seniors sections each season. Jude’s Ice Cream and Big Yellow Self Storage will continue to support us for another year. We are also pleased to welcome The Winchester Hotel & Spa and Linwood Fabrics to the Club for 2024; we look forward to working with them both over the season ahead.
Preseason preparations continue, with actions from renovating the Club’s ground sign at the entrance to the pitch, to repairs to the nets and grounds equipment and the installation of new sightscreens in preparation for the first games in April. Following unprecedented levels of rain this winter, it is testament to the skills of our Groundsman – Lee Padwick – that the outfield is in the condition it is in and we can hopefully be ready for friendly warm up matches. The following fixtures have been agreed:
- Saturday April 6th Home match vs Bramshaw CC
- Saturday April 13th Inter-club friendly / Club Opening Day
- Saturday April 20th Away match vs North Perrott CC
- Sunday April 28th National Village Cup vs Sarisbury CC (1pm start)
League fixtures start on Saturday May 4th. Our 3rd XI will again play Home matches at North Walls Recreation Ground.
