News Update – Mar 23

During the off-season, EMWCC has been planning further developments and improvements for the cricket club and grounds in 2023. Our Committee has been liaising with the Village Hall about how to improve access to the pitch from the club terrace, which will benefit both future hall and club users.

We are delighted to announce that Jude’s Ice Cream has returned as the partner for our Juniors teams in 2023; Jude’s Ice Cream had previously worked with the Juniors from 2018 to 2020 and we welcome their return. Our Seniors teams will continue to be supported by Station Mill Health and Fitness.

Competitive cricket continues throughout the year. Our Men’s team is enjoying a successful season in the South Hampshire Indoor Cricket League played at Eastleigh Leisure Centre. They are undefeated at the top of Division 2 at the time of writing. The leading runs scorer and wicket taker is Sam Dickety, closely followed by 1st Team Captain Ben Stanbrook and Club Secretary Seb Stannard.

Senior Indoor training will continue until 25th March on each Saturday, between 17.30 and 19.00 in Sparsholt College’s sports hall.  All interested players should contact Seb Stannard on the details below.

Captained by Charlie Gloyn, the Women’s team are entered into the Dummer Cricket Centre Indoor League; halfway through the winter season they are sitting midway in their table.

This year the Boys’ senior parent coach, Ben Gillings, is reinstating an U15s squad. Ben has considerable experience as both a player and a coach, he also turns out regularly for the Seniors 3rd team, playing with his son Noah.  Ben runs Optimum Personal Training. The U15s Boys team will provide a natural conduit from Juniors to Seniors cricket.

Junior squads are planning to be match ready for the summer. Winter training is in full swing for Boys and Girls, from U9s to U15s, on Wednesdays and Thursdays at St Swithun’s and Prince’s Mead Schools. If you would like to participate in these, please contact Laura Skilton on the details below.

Please add the following dates to your diary for later this Summer:

  • Saturday 6th May – first Seniors League fixture at home
  • Thursday 20th July – The Tug of War & BBQ
  • Friday 21st July – The popular Easton Sixes Tournament

New members are very welcome across all sections of the Club – Juniors, Womens & Mens teams. Please contact us if you are interested in playing, coaching, volunteering, officiating at matches or sponsoring the Club in any way.
