Following weeks of dry weather the first Men’s outdoor League matches of the year on May 2nd were either abandoned or played reduced overs due to rain! The following weekend provided far more clement weather and a bumper number of wins across the club.
The Men’s 1st XI played a home match versus Burridge CC 2nd XI and won by 7 wickets. Due in no small part to Nick Boulton’s (104*) and Neil Rose’s (59*). Sam Boxer and Charlie Boyes both achieved 3 wickets. The EMWCC 2nd XI won by 8 wickets against Eastleigh Warriors 1st XI. Team captain Aaron Burton achieved 3 wickets and Sam Dickety 4. Sam also made 48 runs off 71 balls and Henry Steen (42*) off 56 balls It is very gratifying to see a number of youngsters having moved through the juniors’ age groups now playing for the adults’ teams.
Laura Skilton Juniors’ Organiser reports:
It was an absolutely brilliant weekend for the Easton juniors, with five cup victories securing places in the second round and plenty of fantastic cricket on display across the age groups.
The U11A team kicked things off in style with a superb all-round team performance. The boys supported each other brilliantly throughout, staying positive both on and off the pitch. Easton secured victory by five wickets thanks to some outstanding bowling that showcased the depth and talent within the squad. The fielding was equally impressive, with very little getting past the team and some excellent catches alongside accurate short and long throws. Chasing 34 runs for victory, the boys comfortably reached the target before enjoying a mixed game with the opposition in the sunshine — a perfect example of the spirit of Sunday morning cricket.
The U13B side then produced a strong display against old rivals St Cross in their opening cup fixture. Sam Stockings made the perfect start with a wicket from the very first ball of the match, setting the tone for a disciplined team effort in the field. Easton restricted the opposition to just 51 runs, with standout contributions from Alex Steen, who claimed four wickets before retiring unbeaten on 26. The target was reached in just eight overs to complete a hugely enjoyable morning for the team.
Meanwhile, the U13A team delivered a brilliant Hampshire Cup victory after being set a challenging 159 to win from 20 overs against South Winchester. The Easton boys responded superbly with the bat, producing a composed and confident chase. Harry Dutton made 39, Patrick Burnand finished unbeaten on 40, while Fred Ebsworth (22*) and Eddie Jenkins (26*) also made crucial contributions to see Easton home. Earlier in the game, Oli Arscott was the pick of the bowlers with an excellent spell of 2-11 from four overs.
A fantastic weekend for Easton cricket, full of teamwork, positivity and some outstanding performances across the club. Laura Skilton
