Lee Padwick – the Club’s Head Groundsman – has been taking advantage of the recent dry weather to undertake pitch preparation for the summer season. Our first friendly outdoor game will be on Saturday 12th April and thereafter on Saturdays throughout April – weather permitting!
The men’s summer league matches are scheduled to commence on Saturday May 3rd . Our ladies play matches on Sunday afternoons and also some Tuesday evenings.
The Indoor Winter Leagues continue into the spring. EMWCC’s men’s team plays in the South Hampshire Indoor Cricket League in Division 1 and our ladies team compete in the Dummer Indoor League with regular fixtures. The new Winchester College Sports Hall is the venue for the men’s indoor training which started in March; our boys squads have been practising at Twyford School and the girls at St Swithun’s School.
The Slam is a new T20 competition instigated by Hampshire Cricket Board for U15s, U17s and adults combined. The fluid format for match dates aims to provide flexibility and encourage youngsters to continue playing cricket into adulthood and senior sides. EMWCC has one team entered and is very keen to support this new initiative for 2025.
EMWCC Juniors’ Organiser, Laura Skilton, has been busy sourcing pitches and venues and co-ordinating coaches and managers for the Club’s extensive Juniors’ section of 13 squads from U9s to U17s. Juniors’ outdoor training is scheduled to commence during April, weather permitting. All are welcome to come along and attend the popular social evening on Fridays (starting on Friday 25th April) at the David Roth Cricket Ground and enjoy the bar and BBQ.
