On Saturday July 12th all three Men’s teams again recorded wins in their respective League matches. The 1st team won by a nail-biting one run in the penultimate over! EMWCC were 322 for 4 off 45 overs. Basingstoke and North Hants CC scored 321 all out off 44.1 overs. 18 of the 33 players fielded by EMWCC were aged under 20, with the youngest just 13. A huge testament to the committed and hard working coaches and managers in the club’s Juniors’ section. The 1st team is currently ranked 2nd in their division of the Hampshire Cricket League. The 2nds are ranked top and the 3rds are sitting in mid table.
Girls U11s, coached by Jeremy Hunter, play in Tier 1 of the Hampshire Junior Cricket Championship. They secured 1st place in their League in the final match of the season versus Hursley Park CC, posting 143 runs for 9 to Hursley’s 141 for 8. They also reached the final of the Bethan Watkinson County Cup, but lost to Hook and Newnham Basics CC who fielded a strong team containing many county players. Very well done Girls.

EMWCC U9 Season Review 2025
EMWCC U9s have celebrated one of their strongest ever years in 2025. Over 65 boys and girls, aged between 7 and 9 years old (comprising Y3 and Y4 school ages) have attended Friday evening training throughout late April to mid-July. These sessions have been exceptionally well attended, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere at The David Roth Memorial Ground every week. The successful age group boasts a wealth of parent helpers who support our qualified coaches to deliver high quality sessions to the club’s youngest players.
On a Sunday morning, these youngsters have the opportunity to participate in softball pairs matches against other local clubs. The format allows each player on the team to bat as a pair for a minimum of four overs and bowl a minimum of two. EMWCC is one of the few clubs in Hampshire to field three mixed teams (now known as U9 White, U9 Blue and U9 Yellow), as well as a dedicated U9 Girls team.
The quality of cricket on display from these teams has been nothing short of outstanding. The teams have won 24 of their 32 games. The Tier 1 U9 White team, in particular, has won 8 of 9 matches to finish top of their League as the best U9 mixed team in the region. All players have had the opportunity to participate, regardless of their age or experience, with many youngsters playing their first (hopefully of many!) cricket matches.
