Lee Padwick – Winner of Groundsman Of The Year, Southern Premier League, 2024

EMWCC fields 15 teams throughout the summer season. A large undertaking for a Club with just one cricket pitch.  Home matches are also played on nearby cricket club and school pitches and at WCC’s North Walls Recreation Ground.

The good facilities provided within the clubhouse and the Village Hall , along with the high standard of the pitch preparation attract outside teams who want to use our ground, such as Hampshire Cricket, Winchester University and sometimes a privately hosted match.

Lee has now completed his autumn ground work at Easton and the square has been put to bed for the winter. Following the conclusion of the summer cricket season the Club has also supported the Village Hall committee with organising events such as the Easton car boot sale in September and the fireworks evening in November, both using the David Roth Cricket Ground.

All these activities on the ground and pitch run seamlessly due to the hard work of the Club’s highly regarded groundsman Lee Padwick. He somehow manages to juggle the requirements of team managers and captains, last minute alterations and additions to fixture lists, along with the vagaries of our weather with efficiency, alacrity and good humour. Despite all this his pitch standards have been exemplary all season. We were delighted that Lee received a prestigious award this year – the Southern Premier League Cricket Groundsman Of The Year 2024 – in recognition of all his work. A very well deserved prize and many congratulations to Lee from everyone at EMWCC.
