On the sunny Monday evening of June 10th our Junior section of U13 & U15 boys enjoyed another impressive turnout of keen cricketers. Training on Monday evenings from 6 pm-7 pm (U13s) and 7 pm-8 pm (U15s) always creates a buzz at the David Roth Ground. This special evening combined training for U13s and a fiercely contended derby against St Cross CC for the U15s (won by EMWCC who chased down 125 with a wicket to spare!). Stuart Upcraft very kindly set up a delicious BBQ which was well attended. It was supplemented by some parents’ contributions and Jude’s ice creams are always popular. My children commented that it was a definite improvement on our regular Monday tea at home!
Many of the junior squad have been playing at Easton since they could barely hold a bat but we are delighted that we also have new players and especially excited to have gained players completely new to cricket which is fantastic. One of our biggest aims in the Juniors’ section is to be inclusive and within the squads, we have all levels of player from the beginner to those competing at both District and County levels. We have lots of boys from the Itchen Valley and also from local surrounding areas, with children attending from many different schools.
The boys generally play their matches on Sunday mornings and Monday evenings and have fixtures throughout the summer. Do feel free to come down and support – you will be most welcome. Any questions about our Juniors’ section please email: juniors@emwcc.com
