News Update – Sep 2026

On Friday July 24th eight teams, each sponsored by local organisations, took part in the 13th annual EMWCC Sixes tournament. New for 2026, the event was streamed on YouTube to a worldwide audience! Five overs are bowled in each innings by a different bowler – and the batters retire on 20 runs or are out in the usual manner. Hampshire Cricket League umpires are on hand to ensure the competition rules are interpreted correctly!

Despite the arid ground conditions, the David Roth Cricket Ground was a colourful spectacle for the event. Each team wore brightly coloured playing shirts and some of the teams taking part included Wessex Energy Storage, Fenwick Elliott Solicitors, the Flower Pots Inn, the Cricketers Inn, Client Server Titans and Fairways Property Services. Many of the players involved in the teams have made their way through the club’s Junior and Senior cricket set ups over the past few years and enjoy participating in this prestigious annual event.

Following on from the two group stages the first semi-final was played between the Cricketers Inn and Dr.Vegan;  Dr.Vegan won the game comfortably by 41 runs. The second semi-final between Client Server Titans (the 2025 winners) and Anglesea Capital was more closely fought, but Anglesea Capital ran out winners by 6 runs.

In the final, Anglesea Capital won the toss and elected to field. Dr.Vegan batted first and scored an impressive 99 for 1 off their 5 overs, which is a record score in the final of the competition. Anglesea Capital were always under scoreboard pressure and could only score 58 for 4 as wickets fell regularly, so Dr.Vegan won the final by 41 runs. The trophy was presented by club captain Seb Stannard to Tommy Lott, the winning team’s captain. Tommy thanked EMWCC for the efficient and seamless organisation of the day and said his team had very much enjoyed playing the Sixes this year and they look forward to defending their title next year.

EMWCC U15s won their North Regional Cup Final V Wokingham CC by one wicket. The winning run was scored off the final ball! A fantastic result – very well done boys and coach Ben Gillings.

The 2026 photo board has again been created by Charlie Gloyn. It depicts many aspects of club life during the summer and generates lots of interest. Another very busy and successful summer of cricket is drawing to a close. The annual Badger Day interclub celebration match will close the season. The Juniors’ presentation evening is scheduled for Friday September 4th. It is testament to the skills of club groundsman Lee Padwick that the pitch has remained playable despite the prolonged drought and heat.
