EASTON 6’s CRICKET – TOURNAMENT RULES

Teams:  Each team is 6 players.   Each game is 5 overs.

Team List:  Each team squad can be up to 8 players from which 6 are selected for each match.  A team must put out at least 5 players or forfeit the match.  If unforeseen exigency, i.e. injury, a temporary substitute may be requested.

Captain:  Each team shall appoint a Captain responsible for (i) assuring the good conduct of their players and their supporters, (ii) assuring fair play within the Spirit of Cricket, (iii) ensuring meticulous time keeping with all players ready to start each match promptly, (iv) representing the team for meetings, disputes, etc.

General: MCC Laws of Cricket are followed The Laws of Cricket | MCC (lords.org)

Order of Play: The Team listed first is batting first. The Team listed second is batting second.

Umpires: Neutral umpires officiate each game. If unforeseen exigency requires umpiring assistance, a non-playing team/s should provide the support.

Referee:  An unassigned umpire shall act as Referee for each match.  Any queries can be passed to the Referee for consideration, and their decision on any point shall be accepted.

Bowling Over: Each fielder bowls 1 over. Wides and No Balls are only re-bowled in the 5th over.  The wicketkeeper does not bowl. Under-arm bowling is not allowed.

Bowling Run-up: Bowling is from a max 5 metres from the bowling crease.

Bowling End: Bowling is from the South end. Batting is from the Pavilion end. Batters swap at end of each over.

Wicketkeeper: The wicketkeeper (WK) is to be protectively attired including specialist WK gloves. The WK is not changeable during a game other than for unforeseen exigency, i.e. injury retirement. The WK does not bowl. A different WK can be used each game. The WK is suitably positioned behind the stumps as pertaining the bowler and bowling action.  The umpire will advise a WK who is not correctly attired or correctly positioned.

Equipment:  Equipment should comply with ECB Standard. Correct cricket attire should be worn. Helmets are recommended for batting. Any player under 18 must wear a protective helmet when batting or keeping wicket.

Runs and Extras: Scored in accordance with the laws of cricket. Normal rules for runs, 4s, 6s, Byes, Leg Byes and Penalty Runs.  There are special adjustments for Wides and No Balls.

Wide:  WIDE counts as FOUR (4) extra runs to the batting side.

After the call of WIDE, and allowing for stumping, the ball is a Dead Ball and no further runs can accrue. Wide ball takes precedence over No Ball.  A wide ball is not re-bowled, other than in the 5th/Final Over.  A wide is assessed in accordance with customary standard for short duration cricket (i.e. midweek, evening, indoor league).

No Ball:  NO BALL counts as FOUR (4) extra runs to the batting side.

Runs/Byes/Leg Byes scored from a NO BALL are additional to the 4 extras for the NO BALL.  No Ball is not re-bowled, other than in the 5th/Final Over.  A No Ball is assessed in accordance with customary standard for short duration cricket (i.e. midweek, evening, indoor league).

Retirement:  A Batter retires not out on reaching a personal score of TWENTY (20) runs. A batter completes all runs off the shot that takes them to or past the 20, i.e. if on 19 and hits a shot for 3 runs, the batter would retire on 22.  Retirees resume their innings after the 5th batter’s wicket has fallen with the first retiree resuming first and so on.

Non-Retirement:  A batter cannot retire before reaching 20 runs, unless unforeseen exigency.

Super-Over:  The 2nd Over of every innings is a Super Over. Runs scored count DOUBLE (Off the bat, Byes, Leg Byes)

Substitutes: Players may be substituted for unforeseen exigencies, i.e. injury replacement.

Incoming Batter:  An incoming batter must be on the pitch ready to continue the innings within ONE minute of a retirement, or the fall of a wicket, or could be given ‘TIMED OUT’ by the umpire.

Timely Play:   Teams should be ready to take the field of play immediately the previous game is finished. Batters and wicketkeeper should be suitably attired to take the field as soon as the previous game is completed.

Reasonable Behaviour: All players and supporters should respect the tournament with reasonable behaviour.  Adverse behaviours may result in individual or team exclusion from further presence in the tournament.

Queries:  Please review any queries with the Tournament organiser. The Easton 6s Committee will amend any Rule if it considers that to be in the best interests of the competition.
